Hello, Artists in Training and Amazing Parents,
As we are coming to an end of our 2019-2020 school year let's talk about grades during the Covid19 Pandemic. We have all tried our best to navigate "Distance Learning", it's been a challenge to reach all 700 plus of my elementary art students (Artists in Training) as elementary students are not 1:1 (one computer to one student) and many face a variety of challenges. Knowing some didn't have their own devices, wifi, a parent at home helping to name some of the few challenges our students faced I wanted to reach as many students possible. Regardless of the challenges, I made many attempts to reach them, here is a Google Document, Distance Learning for 6th six weeks, that shows dates, platforms, and attempts to reach as many students and parents possible. Many parents and students did see the Class Dojo Art Google Classroom code but maybe forgot to add the art class or had situations holding them back from completing art assignments other than technological reasons. The good news is no one will "FAIL" art the sad news is that I missed all of my awesome and talented artists in training and their amazing work.
THE GOOD NEWS
All Recieve "P" for passing 6th Six Weeks on Focus.
Being as fair as possible, knowing we are in this Pandemic together, ALL Students (Artist in Training) are receiving a "P" (passing) for the 6th, Six Weeks grading report on Focus. You might see certain assignments as "I" for incomplete as perhaps your child didn't either register for the Art Google Classroom or didn't turn in photographs (JPG) on each Art Google Classroom Assignment. To clarify and "I" is a Grace grade that doesn't affect their grade in any way, it's simply documenting that they didn't turn in work for different reasons such as not having wifi, no computer, medical or other reason. Taking into consideration all the previous art participating during regular school days I made other assignments on Focus and "passing" grades for 6th Six Weeks on Focus. Such as, "Home Projects with Family, Staying Safe, South Hills Parade, Collaborating with Family, Art Projects Prior to Distance Learning, and Class Dojo Participation." You will see the "P" passing grade on Focus by Friday, May 29th.
If you missed the opportunity to join us these six weeks during Distance Learning Experience, please don't feel overwhelmed with feeling you have to do up to 6 assignments and 1 survey in less than 2 days as No Late Art Assignments will be allowed after Wednesday, May 27th, 2020. Remember: All students will receive a "P" for passing as final grade for the 6th six weeks period.
In Case you were wondering about the 5th Six Weeks Grades
5th Six Weeks:
All students received a "P" for passing taking into consideration their previous grades for the first 3 weeks of 5th Six Weeks prior to Spring Break, as required by FWISD. As we were transitioning into Distance Learning and receiving orders from FWISD we had access to Class Dojo. I made 4 easy and fun activities on Class Dojo Distance Learning Online Specials (Previously named Art Studio Online @Home) these were not for a grade but to help both students and parents to stay busy as we waited for the District to make decisions.
FWISD Art Curriculum for 6th Six Weeks
On April 3rd FWISD rolled out our 6th Six Weeks Distance Learning Scope and Sequence for Art and our Art Google Classroom officially started on Monday, April 6th, 2020 with Assignment number 1. Many posts and announcements were made to inform parents and students of the Art Google Classroom Code via Class Dojo, Class Dojo South Hills Elementary Page, Specials Online@Home, Art YouTube Chanel, and Art Website.
