Hello,
We are so excited to share some discoveries we've made this six weeks on our Brain on Art. It is so important for our young artists to understand how the brain in a lot of ways is just like a computer. We trained our Right Side of our brain to turn our minds off and focus using our eyes to observe and our hands to draw what we have observed.
Third and fifth grade artists learn to draw "Blind Contour" drawings to train our brain to observe lines, shapes and positive/negative space without looking at our paper but instead focus our attention to the objects we were drawing. Fifth grade had a special "right brain" exercise copying a contour line portrait drawing made by Pablo Picasso while copying it upside down. This brain exercise helps develop our right side of the brain to focus on the details of line and space.
As our end of class closure we had the opportunity to watch several videos on the scientific, emotional, psychological and academic benefits of having art in our daily life's.
